Clones based manufacturing company ALPHA TANKS has been recognised by InterTradeIreland for its commitment to innovation after taking part in the all-island technology transfer programme, FUSION. The company, which manufactures carbon steel and stainless steel tanks and pressure vessels, was commended for developing innovative products, expanding into new markets and increasing production efficiency.

Through InterTradeIreland’s FUSION programme, ALPHA TANKS was partnered with the Southern Regional College in Armagh and high calibre engineering graduate Ciaran Brady to transfer expertise and knowledge between the company and the college. As a result, ALPHA TANKS has significantly improved its technical expertise and capabilities, improved production efficiency, reduced costs and introduced a culture of continuous improvement in productivity and efficiency.

Acknowledging the company’s achievements Oonagh Monahan, InterTradeIreland programme Consultant commented: “Our FUSION programme makes innovation a reality for SMEs like by partnering them with the best ideas, people and expertise anywhere on the island of Ireland to develop and improve products, services and processes. It is through this collaborative approach that Alpha Tanks has improved its competitiveness and made a tangible impact on its bottom line. We would like to acknowledge Alpha Tanks for its commitment to – and successful application of innovation in its business.”

The InterTradeIreland FUSION project ran parallel to the company’s own plans for reducing costs and increasing productivity – positioning Alpha Tanks as a market forerunner in terms of technology and process advancement.

Fergal Cleary, Director at Alpha Tanks said: “As a company, we pride ourselves in innovation across our business from sales and marketing, product development and operations and we aim to set trends in every market we enter.

Through InterTradeIreland’s FUSION programme, companies can apply for a comprehensive funding package to undertake a 12 or 18 month innovation project. Companies are partnered with a third level institution with the specialist expertise they need and a high calibre science and technology graduate based in their company to manage the project.

Each InterTradeIreland FUSION project generates, on average, in excess of €1 million worth of sales and efficiency savings for the company as a result of cost savings, new product development, increased sales and process improvements in the three years following the projects completion.
